Meet our Grade 4 Teacher : Mrs Tichasvika Muhala.

My Life as a Teacher at Hillcrest Preparatory School

I grew up in a warm, close-knit family where education, respect, and community were deeply valued. Those early years shaped not only my love for learning, but also the values I bring into my classroom every day. Being raised as a pastor’s child taught me responsibility, humility, and a strong heart for service—qualities that continue to guide both my life and my teaching.

My journey with children began long before I became a qualified teacher. I worked closely with young learners as a Sunday School teacher, which helped me develop patience, confidence, and a natural ability to connect with children. From an early age, I knew that working with children was not just a career choice for me, but a calling.

I have been part of the Hillcrest Preparatory School family for seven years, and what first drew me here was the strong sense of community and the school’s commitment to nurturing the whole child. Hillcrest is a place where children are known, supported, and encouraged to become confident learners—and where teachers are given the space to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact.

In my classroom, I strive to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment where every child feels valued. I believe that children learn in different ways, so I use creative, child-centred approaches that build confidence, curiosity, and independence. One of the most rewarding moments for me is watching a child overcome a challenge and then confidently help others—those moments remind me why I love teaching.

I am particularly passionate about literacy development, child psychology, and teaching strategies that allow children to learn through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. I continually reflect on my teaching, collaborate with colleagues, and attend professional development workshops so that I can give my learners the best possible support.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, flower gardening, nature walks, and listening to music. These moments help me maintain balance and bring renewed energy into my work with the children.

At Hillcrest Preparatory School, I am proud to be part of a team that teaches with purpose, care, and conviction. I believe that when children are taught by educators who genuinely care about their growth—academically, emotionally, and socially—they flourish. Partnering with parents in this journey is one of the most meaningful parts of my role, and it is a privilege to help shape the young lives entrusted to us.
